Govt. discussed a Relief for garment exporters

The issues and challenges that could be faced by garment exporters within the next three crucial months due to COVID-19 and means to address them were discussed at the Temple Trees yesterday(March 31).

During the meeting exporters pointed out that some buyers in the international market have not paid for their exported garments since last February following the 19 outbreak. The issue of cancellation of the orders and the cancellation of orders that already have commenced the production process were also discussed at the meeting.

The issues were discussed at the Presidential Task Force headed by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa on Supplying Essential Goods, under the instructions of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The garment exporters, European Union Representatives and US Embassy representatives participated at the meeting.
