He contested for the post of vice president on behalf of the Democratic Party in the 2008 US national election. He was elected vice president with Barack Obama and served until 2017. Biden became an attorney in 1969. In 1970 he was elected to the Country Council. He was elected to the Senate for the first time in 1972.

He is the fifth youngest senator in US history. He was elected senator in 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996, 2002 and 2008. Joe Biden is the first Roman Catholic to be elected vice president of the United States.
