A special meeting between the government and the United People’s Freedom Alliance on the prevailing situation in the country with the outbreak of coronavirus, was held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (06 April) under the patronage of president Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The President elaborated on the measures taken by the government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country and the plans that have been put forward.
President appreciated the support of public health inspectors for symptom monitoring and regular screening as well as public administration at the meeting.
The Unity Movement commended the Government’s actions and both sides felt that the program should be continued without any political or other differences.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that if there is any injustice or defect in the government’s program the government will take immediate action to prevent it.
At the discussion, it was requested the public to pay attention to the clients who are unable to return to the village to provide various services including the construction sector on a daily basis and a large number of medicines needed for daily health services including non communicable diseases will be brought to India tomorrow (07 April) at the request of the government.
In addition to Samurdhi beneficiaries, more than seven hundred thousand of elderly, disabled and kidney patients have been paid a total allowance of Rs. 5,000 without any disparity. Chief of the Presidential Task Force, Basil Rajapaksa said that if anyone has not received it, the Grama Niladhari can be appealed.
Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Wimal Weerawansa, Dullas Alahapperuma, Bandula Gunawardena and Johnston Fernando represented ,and the government. Dr. Jayasundera was also present.
