Sri Lanka Coronavirus cases significantly rise

Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit confirms that the total number of coronavirus infections in Sri Lanka has soared to 417 cases.

According to the tally, Sri Lanka has confirmed a record surge in coronavirus cases with 49 new infections within the day, friday(24).

The 49 coronavirus patients identified today include 11 from Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo 12, 30 naval personnel from the Welisara Navy Base, 5 naval personnel who were on leave and a pregnant woman from Maradana area who had been admitted to De Soysa Hospital for Women in Colombo 8.

The five naval personnel who were on leave are from Hidilla Kanda in Ratnapura, Udapola in Polgahawela, Keeniyapola in Kurunegala, Rathkinda in Badulla and Athabodhiwewa in Dambulla.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry says that 301 coronavirus cases are currently under medical care.

In the meantime, the island has reported 109 recoveries and 7 fatalities due to COVID-19.

Coronavirus world wide updates

More than 2.7 million coronavirus cases have been reported globally by last night, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, USA.

The total number of deaths worldwide was close to 195,000. The United States leads with more than 30% of the global infections, reporting more than 883,000 cases nationwide. Across the US, over 50,000 people have died due to the coronavirus pandemic. New York has the largest number of cases in the USA.

Spain is next with 220,000 cases, Italy 193,000, France 160,000, Germany 154,000 and the UK nearly 145,000. Italy has reported nearly 26,000 deaths, Spain 22,000, France 22,000 and UK 19,000.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s recorded number of Coronavirus cases has passed China’s. Turkey has confirmed at least 104,000 coronavirus cases, surpassing China’s reported total of at least 83,853, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
