Air and water quality values up in Sri Lanka

The US Embassy’s Air Quality Index, air quality in Colombo has risen to 55 by 4.00 pm Yesterday(4). It was with the imposed of police curfews in the country to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic,said the Senior scientist of the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) H.D.S. Premasiri.

He stated that this situation is due to the lack of traffic and further added that the level of air pollution has changed drastically compared to the situation before the curfew was imposed.

Sri Lanka’s air pollution levels hit a record high in November.

Meanwhile, the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) said that the quality of water in the Kelani River has improved as a result of the release of industrial wastewater into the waterways.
